A Choir That Brings People Together
The OK Foundation Gospel Choir is more than a choir; it’s a community.
People join for many different reasons. Some are rediscovering their voice after years away from singing. Others simply want something uplifting at the end of the week.
Very quickly, rehearsals become something special. Friendships form, confidence grows and voices blend together to create something powerful.
Members often tell us how much the choir means to them. Susan described it simply as “the best thing I’ve done in years.” and said singing together feels “like medicine for the soul.”
Every rehearsal is filled with encouragement, laughter and energy. As Heather put it:
“It makes my heart sing and gives me a big zap.”
What If You Feel You Cannot Sing At All?
You would be surprised how many people start with exactly that thought.
Some members arrive having never sung in a choir before. Others have previous musical experience. Both are equally welcome.
Rehearsals are guided step-by-step by our choir director, helping singers learn songs, harmonies and techniques in a supportive environment.
There are no auditions and no pressure. What matters most is enthusiasm and willingness to join in.
Kieran said "it was the first time I had sung in fifteen years, hearing my voice again was a wonderful surprise."
Why Gospel?
Gospel music is joyful, uplifting and powerful. Its rich harmonies, rhythm and energy create a shared experience that lifts spirits and brings people together. You don't have to be religious to join, we welcome people of all faiths and none.
What To Expect
Each rehearsal is welcoming, lively and full of positive energy.
We begin with vocal warm-ups to help you use your voice comfortably and confidently. You’ll learn Gospel songs together as a choir, exploring harmonies and developing your voice along the way.
You may be standing, swaying, clapping or simply enjoying the music from your seat. Everyone participates in the way that works best for them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be able to sing?
Not at all. Many of our members had never sung Gospel before joining. If you enjoy music and are willing to give it a try, you are very welcome.
Do I need to read music?
No. Everything is taught by ear and through guided rehearsal.
Do I have to audition?
No auditions. The choir is open to anyone who would like to sing.
What happens at a rehearsal?
We begin with warm-ups, then learn and sing Gospel songs together as a choir, building harmonies and confidence as we go.
How much does it cost?
Your first session is free. After that, rehearsals run as a termly membership of £90, following the academic calendar.
The OKF Gospel Choir is part of The OK Foundation, a registered charity that believes in the power of food and music to bring people together and transform lives.
Because of this, we never want cost to be a barrier. Bursaries are available for those experiencing financial hardship, and we are always happy to discuss this in confidence.
